Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heart Institute, located in southeast Florida, is recruiting for a board certified / board eligible pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeon with specialty training and experience in surgery for pediatric and congenital heart disease. Primary responsibilities will be for neonates, infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease in need of cardiac surgical care. Additionally, the program has an active heart transplant and mechanical circulatory assist device program. Prior exposure or training in heart transplantation, mechanical assist and ECMO would be ideal but is not required. Candidate will also be able to participate and develop clinical and translational research opportunities with supportive resources.
The Heart Institute’s cardiac surgical volume has been steadily increasing over the last several years and it currently is the busiest congenital cardiac surgical program in south Florida. The candidate would be joining two well established congenital heart surgeons and a robust world class, multidisciplinary team both in and out of the operating room. The candidate must be eligible to sit for or hold an ABTS subspecialty certificate in congenital cardiac surgery.
Early career, midterm and seasoned congenital cardiac surgeons are encouraged to apply. Mentorship for an early career surgeon as well as teaching opportunities for more experienced surgeons exist within the program. The ideal candidate would have outstanding technical skills, a passion for clinical excellence and importantly, the ability to work collaboratively within the Heart Institute’s world-class multidisciplinary team.
This is a full-time employed position with the multispecialty Memorial Physician Group. The position offers competitive benefits and a compensation package that is commensurate with training and experience. Professional malpractice and medical liability are covered under sovereign immunity.

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is one of six hospitals that are part of Memorial Healthcare System, the third largest public health system in the country. Memorial delivers nearly 14,000 babies per year in three hospitals and has 132 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds – both Level II and III services (the state of Florida does not yet have a separate designation for Level IV care).
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (JDCH) has robust high-risk and congenital programs including a US News and World Report ranked pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery Program, one of only two active programs in the state that does heart transplants. JDCH’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine program is also ranked by US News and World Report as number one in Florida and is one of the largest programs in the southeastern United States. JDC...H also has robust Neurosciences, Hematology/Oncology and other specialized surgical programs (approximately 10,000 surgeries per year), and the area’s largest pediatric and neonatal transport team, which also does mobile ECMO.
JDCH serves over 375,000 children per year from around the state. Approximately 100,000 children are cared for in our three emergency rooms across the county per year. JDCH’s services continue to grow with the opening of the new specialty center/ambulatory surgery center in Palm Beach County in 2018 and a new ambulatory pavilion in Miramar, near Miami-Dade County which will open in 2021.
