Licensed Vocational Nurses within San Bernardino Medical Group support the efforts of the health care delivery team. Licensed Vocational Nurses perform a variety of medically related tasks within their licensure. They work closely with Physician and Nursing team members to provide quality patient care.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Acts as a patient advocate in the coordination and delivery of quality Patient care.
- Starting and stopping IVs, collecting, and documenting notes data such as vital signs, patient behavior, patient response to medications, nursing care, and treatment plans
- Responsible for documenting significant changes in patient's behavior and health status in notes and reporting those significant changes to the Supervisor Infusion Registered Nurse.
- Maintains patients' dignity by protecting patients' rights to privacy, confidentiality and safety.
- Implements clinical care per Optum/PrimeCare/San Bernardino Medical Groups policies and procedures.
- Documents patient care in accordance with SBMG health care policies and procedures.
- Adheres to all Infection Control and Safety policies and procedures.
- Administers medication safety, accurately and in accordance with the state of California licensure.
- Assist physician and patient with insurance authorizations by proper form initiation, correct CPT & ICD-10 coding, computer data entry, phone calls, interfacing professionally with HMO and Billing Office, faxes and letters as relates and is appropriate.
- Works as a team with all ancillary services to expedite and coordinate patient care.
- Schedule and explain appointments and procedures.
- Triage telephone calls, taking messages, referring calls to the doctor or licensed nurse as appropriate.
- Prepares patient and rooms in conformance with medical practice procedures.
- Obtain vital signs, weight and height on patients prior to exam.
- Practices infection control as well as safety policies and procedures are implemented per San Bernardino Medical Group policies and procedures.
- Procedures and treatments are implemented accurately and documented appropriately.
- Patient and Physician requests are responded to professionally and promptly.
- Proper body mechanics are utilized consistently.
- Follows standard dress and proper grooming which includes but is not limited to: hair and body clean, clothes clean and wrinkle free. Shoes close toed, clean, and preferably white in color. Make-up and jewelry if worn, should be kept to a minimum, Tattoos covered.
- All other duties as required or need.
- Anticipated nursing duties include but are not limited to: EKGs, IV insertion, Urinary Catheterization, Medication Administration, Cardiac Monitoring, Ear Lavage, Blood withdrawal, Nasal Swab specimen collection, Quality Controls for point of care devices, Visual Acuity, Sterile Tray Set up, basic Wound Care, Crutch training, etc.

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited school of vocational nursing or completed state requirement for licensure
- Currently LVN licensure to practice in California
- BLS certification to be maintained throughout active employment
- ACLS or PALS may be required depending on the area of assignment
- Current California Vocational Nursing License
- Current BLS Certificate
- Current IV Certification
- Current ACLS (May be acquired after hire)
- Experience working in infusion therapy
- Ability to read, write, understand and communicate comfortably and competently in the English language
- Ability to put into practice excellent service skills with patients, families and co-workers
- Ability to work cohesively with physicians and other support staff
