The incumbent serves as a Health Technician (HT) at the Lebanon VAMC. The Health Technician is an integral part of the team and many times is the initial contact for the Laboratory customers. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger healthcare system providers including VA and Non VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community-based programs. Individual Occupational Requirement ( IOR) - Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. or For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Patient Personal Care/Safety- performs or assists with personal care such as body and oral hygiene, dressing/undressing, and toileting/elimination ensuring patient privacy at all times. Nursing Assistance - assists RN in patient care as directed to include but not limited to dressing changes, triage, turning and positioning of patients, enema administration, post mortem care and morgue transfers. Cleaning/Stocking Duties- cleans vacated rooms, strips linens, discards used/open medical supplies, orders supplies when stock is low, cleans dirty reusable medical equipment and delivers supplies. Escort Duties- transports patients, as directed, to designated areas, and delivers lab specimens. Post-Exam: Assists Veteran from treatment room to check out area. Routine/Ongoing: Tracks delays, communicating any problems to appropriate team members or supervisor. Communicates with patients during visits. Responsible for communicating any situation that could impact patient care to appropriate team member for resolution.
