The role you’ll contribute:
The Rapid Response Nurse-RN utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to delegate, coordinate and provide safe, therapeutic nursing care to patients/families. This individual makes independent judgments/decisions and acts regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient issues, operating under guidelines of the Rapid Response Team Protocols. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the medical and nursing plans of care. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN acts to support adult inpatient care needs within the facility. This includes the care of critically ill patients and transport from an inpatient unit to the ICU. He/she responds as Code Blue Nurse, promoting effective team interactions, patient assessment, ACLS interventions and complete/accurate documentation. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN responds to and assists with Medical Alerts to include stroke alerts, assisting with plan of care and CT initiation; code STEMI and code Rapid Response to assist with plan of care, initiation of orders, documentation and transport to testing and ICU. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN provides house wide support for assessments, specialized equipment, medication administration and a variety of staff needs.
The Registered Nurse provides self-directed, effective nursing care to groups of patients and other duties as assigned in accordance with Division of Nursing standards and pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 464.003 (3) (a): “Practice of professional nursing means the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied practices of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences which shall include, but not limited to:
The observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care; health teaching and counseling of the ill, injured or infirmed; and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of illness and others.
The administration of medication and treatments as prescribed or authorized by a duly licensed practitioner authorized by the laws of this state to prescribe such medications and treatments.
The supervision and teaching of other personnel in theory and performance of any of the above “acts”.

Demonstrates the ability to maintain bedside clinical skills and is proficient in EMR documentation.
Demonstrates effective communication with patient, family, care team, and transfer center.
Responds to and assists with Medical Alerts for Code Blue, Rapid Response, Stroke and STEMI, assisting with plan of care, initiation of orders, proper documentation, and safe transport of patient.
Responds as Code Blue Nurse, promoting effective team interactions, patient assessment, ACLS interventions and complete/accurate documentation within the EMR.
Proactively rounds on all inpatient nursing units (exception of Nursery, NICU) with special attention to patients including but not limited to:
High sepsis score, recent fall, previous rapid response, downgrades out of ICU/CVICU typically in the first 24hrs, and RN or patient/family/LAP concern.
Administers medications as ordered by the provider.
Adheres to Clinical Privileges of the RN policy for diagnostic tests and emergency medications.
Insertion of small-bore feeding tubes per order outside of the critical care areas.
Provides safe patient transport of critical care patients when available.
Provides coaching and guidance to individual nursing staff members to achieve improved performance and outcomes.
Assists with the policy review and research when applicable.
Assists with interviews and provides input to the Nurse Manager/Director.
The Rapid Response Nurse is required to work a minimum of oneshift per month in the critical care setting providing bedside care to patients.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
Graduate of a school of nursing
Current Florida Registered Nurse RN License
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Critical Care Registered Nurse
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
CCRN certification
Previous ICU experience
Pediatric Advanced life support certification (PALS)
NIHSS
